Dear Parents,

We’ve had a great week with Cc!  It’s a great letter for JK fun!  Everyone looked great as a clown yesterday!

What we’ve done:

We shared the fun of Clown Day with the whole school by having a parade into each classroom!  We did a lot with corn this week.  We shucked the corn and learned about its parts.  Then we ate corn.  I think everyone tried at least one bite and some liked it as much as I do!  We learned and practiced our “orange” song. We made patterns with real corn and small orange pumpkins.  We practiced word work and simple sentence matching with these words.  We read more about caterpillars and cats this week.  We also read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, I Love You Like Crazy Cakes, Corduroy, and more!

Thanks to Kylie and mom who got creative at the store and brought cookies, cheese and cracker packs, Capri Suns and candy corn!

Next week (after Fall Break) :  letter “Dd” and number 4

Friday – October 8 we will have a Disney share day.  Students may bring a favorite Disney toy or item to show and tell about and MAY dress-up as a favorite Disney character for “D” week.

*Friday, October 12 – Disney Day for show and tell and may dress-up as a Disney character

*Save the Date: Harding 5K/5L, is coming up on November 3rd at 9:00 a.m.  This is a fun, healthy Harding community and friends run/walk.  The L is for laps on a small track for small ones to do, but some of our young ones have walked with family in the past!

Have a great, safe Fall Break!

With love and joy in Jesus,

9/7/12 “Miss” Jenny Lynn JK News

Dear Parents,

This week we started our specialty classes!  It’s been a great, busy, “short” week!

 What we’ve done:

The children really enjoyed having Mr. Phillip for FLEX -foreign language experience and “Miss” Maggie for computer, art, music, and P.E.  We’ve also enjoyed learning the “blue song;” learning more about our Pledge of Allegiance and Tennessee; more about the Creation and our wonderful, big God; and about our bodies.  We read Blueberries for Sal and other books featuring “blue.”  We had fun celebrating the birthday of our great school!

We have done a lot of work, but most of it has not been work that has been able to go home for one of several reasons. It might be it was a part of something we would finish later, had to dry, got eaten, or was an activity not on paper!  You might have also noticed that we are practicing some things over and over.  We are building good habits and also learning to follow directions.  We’re practicing being independent with things we can do on our own.  In writing, we are learning the basics the correct way.  Next week when we write an A, we will start at the top to make a backward slanted line, go back up to the top to make a forward slanted line, then go to the “tummy” and slide to the right.  For the little a, we will make a backwards circle then add the short stick – hopefully!!!  This will not be threatening to the children and will just be a matter of putting together what they have learned.  Most of the time when your child has written his/her name in class, I’ve been “assisting.”  Bad habits are hard to break!  Practicing correctly is better than quantity. :)

Thanks:  Jacob – red suckers, Kylie – red fruit roll-ups on red week,  Kayden – triangle candy corn

Next week:

letter ~ Aa;  math ~ number 1;  shape ~ rectangle; color ~ yellow

science ~continue to work on the body ~ apples; Bible ~ Adam & Eve;

rhyme ~  “Little Jack Horner” and “Two little apples hanging on a tree…”

Coming up:

Friday, Sept. 14-11:30 am dismissal for parent/teacher conferences. Please return your conference time choices.

With love and joy in Jesus,

“Miss” Jenny Lynn

“Aloha”

August 31, 2012

Dear Parents,

Your children are already settling into our JK routine so well!  It is a really fun group, and I look forward to seeing each sweet face everyday!

What we’ve done:

We learned and practiced our “RED” song and used the little book to practice spelling and handling a book correctly.  We practiced writing slanted lines for writing and reading from left to right in our poetry and calendar times.  We made squares with Play-Doh and geo boards,  practiced sorting in many ways, added to our computer skills, watercolored red apples, and cut out and assembled a friendly Elmo.  We started memorizing the 23rd Psalm as well as Genesis 1:1.  We talked about the first 3 days of Creation and started making a Creation book.  We learned about the great state of Tennessee and found it on a U.S. map.  We learned about some of the jobs in our community and how important helpers are everywhere we go.  And of course, we celebrated Luau style!  It has been a busy fun week.  Besides all of the above, we’ve read good books, sang beautiful songs, sang silly songs, played fun games, and learned more about cooperation and doing our daily jobs.  It has been busy!  Your children have been great!

Next week:

Monday, September 3rd ~ Labor Day/No School

color ~ blue

shape ~ triangle

science ~ major organs of the body

Bible ~ creation continued

Memory verse ~ “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”  Genesis 1:1

Friday, September 7, dress-up and party celebrate Harding’s 60th Anniversary… It’s a 50’s theme for our 1952 beginning

Reminder:  Conferences are scheduled for Friday, September 14th, and school will be dismissed at 11:30.  I’ll send a sign-up schedule next week.

With love and joy in Jesus,

“Miss” Jenny Lynn’s JK Class!

August 24, 2012

Dear Parents,

It has been great being with your little ones!  This is a great class.  We’ve enjoyed learning about circles, germs, God’s Bible gift, stories, and rhymes this week. We’ve gone over lots of school manners and routines also.  We began to use the computer a little bit too.  Your children have participated so well.  They’ve entertained me with their conversations.  I am so delighted to have each one in my class!

Thanks to our 3 Room Mothers!!!

  1. Karla Flores (Khloe’s mom)
  2. LaTonya Morgan (Kayden’s mom)
  3. Kristin Skinner (Rebekah’s mom)

We are looking forward to a special year with you!

Next week we will be talking about the color red and learning the color word.  The square will be the shape for the week.  Although this is not totally new to your children, we are continuing a good foundation.  In writing we will be adding to the “slide to the right’ practice and habit building we did this week, by working on writing the slanting lines which usually give JK kids some difficulty.  In Bible, we will talk about the first 3 days of creation.  We will also talk about Tennessee, community helpers, and “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”  Monday’s “homework” is for children to bring in something to show for one or more of the themes.  This can be a picture, label, or small item.  You are welcome to send a snack that goes along with any of the themes on any day.

I need to ask for your help with getting your email addresses for my use.  It is always easier for me to add your email addresses correctly to my address book if parents send me an email.  Please email me

brewer.jenny@hardingacademymemphis.org

from your computer so the return address will be what I will add.  In the email, you may add other email addresses such as home or work that is not the one being sent from. I don’t mind having 2 or 3 (or more) email addresses for your family if you need my notifications to go multiple places.

I will create a parent list to send notes to all parents about activities that you might not notice in time- snow dismissal during a school day, etc.

In the email, please also put your child’s name so I can be sure to match that up.  Individually, you will get information that just pertains to your child, requests from me, etc.  You might even get an email from your child sometime during the year!

Harding Academy School (not my classlist) will put just one email address from each child’s information to go into the list for any mass email. Below is how you can add more emails to the e-news list from Harding Academy by going to the school web-site:

If a parent wishes mass email at other addresses, they can add the convenience emails to Constant Contact from the home page – blue section at the bottom right – UPDATE E-NEWS INFORMATION.

Things and Dates to Remember :

Monday, August 27 – Internet Safety Seminar at 6:30 p.m. on the Cherry Rd. campus

*Dress-up alert* Wednesday, August 29 – students may wear something that goes along with our  Fundraiser theme… Luau… it can just be a cap, a bright shirt, sunglasses, or just the lei that came home.  Don’t buy anything.  If you have more… go for it!  Keep modesty and comfort in mind!

Thursday, August 30 – school pictures with school uniforms

Friday, August 31  – Harding Lions football at ECS 7:00 p.m.

Monday, September 3 – Labor Day Holiday – NO SCHOOL

Thank you for sharing your precious childen!

With love and joy in Jesus,
