11/01/2008 TSSAA Division II-A State Meet… “Both Teams Crowned State Runner-Up”

November 2nd, 2008

The end of the road…. for this season.

Both the girls and boys Cross Country teams ran solid races and claimed the TSSAA Division II-A State Runner-Up Titles yesterday at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, TN.  They ran in their eighth, and final, scored cross country meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, 11/01/2008, at the TSSAA Division II-A State Cross Country Meet held at Percy Warner Park.  The weather was almost ideal, sunny and just a little too warm, with the temperature holding somewhere in the mid-70 degree range with a slight breeze.

In the boys race our medaling all-state members were Ben Ashley (8th), Andy Hendrix (9th), Max Michael (11th), Chris Stalcup (13th), and Richard Ashley (15th).  The team was completed by Michael Perry, and Kelso Kelly.  For the girls, the top four runners earned all-state honors.  Sloan Scott (2nd), Kalena Baskin (3rd), Chelsea Essary (5th), and Audrey Sharp (14th) were the medalists.  The team was completed by Molly Elliott, Ashley Ragland, and Caycie Fowler.  Congratulations to both teams on being crowned State Runner-Up.  Let these athletes know how proud we are of all of them!!  To see the results, click on the 2008 CC Meet Results link at the right.

10/23/2008 D-II West TN Region

October 24th, 2008

Both the girls and boys Cross Country teams braved the rain, cold, and mud to successfully defend and capture the D-II A Region Championship title by winning yesterday’s “SWIM MEET” at Shelby Farms Park.  They ran in their seventh scored cross country meet of the season on Thursday afternoon, 10/23/2008, at the Division II West TN Region held at Shelby Farms Park.  The weather, believe it or not, was worse than last week… the temperature had dropped to right around 50 degrees and it had rained all day and throughout both races, making the course extremely treacherous and sloppy everywhere!

In the boys race our medalists were Ben Ashley, Andy Hendrix, Chris Stalcup, and Max Michael.  Our team was completed by Richard Ashley (Our Captain & Leader), Michael Perry, and Garrett Lim.  For the girls, the top five runners medaled!  Sloan Scott, 2nd place 21:21; Kalena Baskin, 3rd place 21:47; Chelsea Essary, 6th place; Molly Elliott, 8th place; and Audrey Sharp, 9th place.  Congratulations to both teams on their Region Championships.  The State Championship is next Saturday in Nashville, wish these athletes luck!!  To see the results, click on the 2008 CC Meet Results link at the right.

Parent’s We Need Your Help at the 10/23/2008 Region Meet for the Boys Race at 3:30PM!!!

October 17th, 2008

CC Parents,

I’m not sure if I mentioned this on parents night or not, but……….

At the coaches meeting back in August, we signed up to help with the finish chute at next week’s Region meet on Thursday 10/23/2008 at Shelby Farms Park.

We are splitting this duty with Briarcrest.  They have agreed to be responsible for the girls race and Harding will take the boys race.

Some of you have done this in the past.  I (Ronn) will be the coordinator and will need 6-8 adult helpers as follows: 1 or 2 helpers at the actual finish line, 3 or 4 workers in the chute, & 2 card hander-outers at the end of the chute.

For the most part, it would be nice to use girl’s parents so that the guy’s parents can watch the boys finish (sorry about that for the girls parents, but almost all of the Briarcrest parents who are active are boy’s parents and I agreed to let them have the girls race).

Please let me know if you can help with this….. via email at rubio.ronn@hardinglions.org

Thanks,
Coach Rubio

[Sorry, but i had 4gotten a/b this until i was reminded yesterday]

10/16/2008 West TN Championship

October 17th, 2008

The teams ran in their sixth scored cross country meet of the season on Thursday afternoon, 10/16/2008, at the Varsity West TN Championship held at Shelby Farms Park.  The weather was less than ideal as the temperatures had dropped into the high 50’s and it had rained all day up until race time, making the course extremely treacherous and sloppy in some places.  The Boys Team placed 9th out of 19 teams and had 3 members place in the top 50 out of 145 runners.  The Girls Team finished in 6th Place out of 15 teams and had 4 members place in the top 50 out of 114 runners.  Both teams are gearing up for an exciting finish to the season in the next two weeks.  To see the results, click on the 2008 CC Meet Results link at the right.

This will be a busy, busy day now that the JV Championships have been moved to that afternoon.  Here are a few important things for you to know…

  2. If you must bring them during the school day you can take them to Melinda Webb in the Dean of Students Office
  3. Please be on time to work the shift you volunteered for
  4. If you signed up to help with the Pre-Game Setup, please report to the track near the long jump pit by 6:00 PM (if you have a JV Boy running at 5:00 PM then just be there as soon as you can)
  5. Please mark everything that you bring with your name if it’s not consumable and you want it back
  6. PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO COME BACK BY AND PICK UP YOUR CROCK POT, ETC. AFTER THE GAME!!!
