Instruct, Instill, Inspire.
Three times a week, offices close, classes are suspended, and the people on the Cherry Road campus gather for chapel. Chapel is a highlight of the day and represents a unique opportunity for adults and students to come together to learn, to enhance their spiritual walk, and to worship. In short, chapel at Harding Academy is a time to instruct, instill, and inspire.
Instruct
Instructional chapels are dedicated to teaching, though the teaching takes various forms. There may be a speaker, either a guest or someone from campus. Or the instruction may come in the form of a skit, readers' theatre, or video presentation. Still another avenue for instruction is through the sharing of testimonies.Instill
Although large group instruction has its place, reaching students on a more personal level is best done in smaller break-out groups. Whereas being in a group of 600 or more makes it easy to remain anonymous, meeting in a smaller group increases the likelihood that a student will be able to know and be known. This goal of allowing every student to know and be known is accomplished through split chapels and small groups. It's in these break-out groups that the lessons of the instructional chapels are reinforced and actually instilled in the students' hearts and minds.Inspire
Singing Chapels on Fridays are favorites among students and teachers alike. Enthusiasm is definitely detectable as people head for this time of praise, led sometimes by a guest, sometimes by a student or teacher. It's not uncommon to hear the songs being hummed or sung in the halls throughout the day.Direct any questions to Melanie Semore semore.melanie@hardinglions.org.
