Harding Academy Blood Drive
Sixty-six students, teachers and staff participated in the annual Blood Drive today. Forty-two were able to successfully donate pints of blood. This is an annual service project event of the senior class. Over 80 students signed up to give, but Lifeblood had to close up at 1 p.m. Parents, friends, students, teachers, and staff can still donate blood at any Lifeblood Center. Be sure to ask them to credit Harding Academy. We will receive a donation to the scholarship fund if we meet our quota of pints donated. Thanks for the overwhelming response to this worthwhile event.

Harding White Station Spelling Bee Keyword Long
The spelling bee at White Station went for 45 rounds! A long one usually lasts 45 minutes, and this lasted about an hour and twenty minutes. So many words were used that they had to go to an alternate list. Keith Bodiford (4th grade) and Jack Webber (6th grade) spelled back and forth till it looked like they might have to break for lunch. Finally, the word "scrawny" was missed, and Jack Webber successfully spelled "merely" to win the White Station "Marathon" Spelling Bee. Keith Bodiford finished 2nd and Grant Hill (5th Grade) finished 3rd. (pictured:r-l Jack Webber, Keith Bodiford, Grant Hill)

Two students have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program. Harding’s Commended Students pictured to the left are Max Michael and Chelsea Essary.

Four Harding students have been named National Merit Semifinalists. These academically talented high school seniors have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8200 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million, that will be offered next spring. To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the PSAT. Harding’s four National Merit Semifinalsts pictured to the right are Dylan Ledbetter, Melora Hawley, Artie Hatfield, and Garrett Lim.

Seventh Grade Bible Presentation Ceremony
Wednesday, September 16th this year's seventh graders were the eleventh class to receive a personalized copy of the Harding Bible. Thanks to the generosity of the Gaylon and Deanna Smith Endowment, the Seventh Grade Bible Ceremony has become a great tradition in which we welcome a new class to Cherry Road and emphasize to them that the Bible is the foundation of our faith. As the psalmist had stated so many years ago and as our seniors sung to the seventh graders, God's word is a "lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105). May these Bibles be a blessing!

Harding Homecoming September 21-25, 2009 is "OFF THE CHARTS." You can not live an
extraordinary life completely within your comfort zone. You can not live
a life for Christ this way because such as life demands that you stretch
yourself - that you engage forces that are not so familiar to you. Take
this homecoming - this entire year- as an opportunity to live your lives

Harding Cherry Rd. Kicks Off Chapel in a Big Way

For Tuesday's Chapel, the students were surprised by Mike Lewis, aka The Jesus Painter. On stage, Mike painted a series of three huge portraits of Jesus in just over 35 minutes, then spent some time talking about his journey and how God had used his availability first, then his ability. The portraits are entitled The Word, Intimate Portrait, and Christ's Eyes, respectively. Separately they are all abstract snapshots of Jesus, but together they tell the story of Jesus coming to earth, dying for us, and beckoning us towards him. The portraits will hang in Harding Academy and two of them will be auctioned off at Esprit de Corps. We invite you to drop by and see them in person in the meantime.
Take a closer look at the paintings.

Harding 1st Annual Family Fish Fry And Fun
Was A Huge Success
The 1st annual back-to-school fish fry was a great success as over 500
people filled the elementary gym for catfish, fries, slaw, and hush puppies.
The 2009-2010 spirit theme of RESTORE the ROAR was announced; NEW
spirit t-shirts flew out of the NEW spirit store. After dinner, students of all
ages enjoyed inflatables, class games, and a dunk tank. When the sun went
down, Coach Tim Stafford and Athletic Director Kevin Starks gave a moving
devotional. "Our school is about the people, the Harding family," said Coach
Stafford. And that is all that needs to be said. Our fish fry marks the first of
many back-to-school gatherings. We want to take every opportunity this year to CELEBRATE our HARDING FAMILY! Welcome back!
