White Station Sixth Graders
Kids as Peacemakers
During this school year, White Station sixth graders have been a part of Kids As Peacemakers, a conflict resolution program that stresses peaceful solutions to problems through dialog, cooperation, and compromise. The class learned about these skills as they researched people who have had a positive influence on our world through peaceful means, and then they put them into practice as they worked on plans for a mural which they would design and paint. The completed mural will be displayed at White Station and then find a permanent home in the classroom. A special thank you goes to Ms. Leigh Ann Wilson, mother of Matthew Sullivan. for her hard work and support on this project. Channel 3 News did a feature story about the Kids as Peacemakers click here to see it.
White Station Supports
Children in Village of Hope
Each month, Harding White Station gives over $200 to sponsor children to go to school at Hope Academy at the Village of Hope. They have been consistent in giving this amount now for 2 years. Each class sponsors one child and the teachers/staff have their own child to sponsor. Pictured here are Seth & Stephen from the Village of Hope.
Prestigious Picnic
for Lighten Up
The 4th annual Prestigious Picnic was a big hit again this year. The 8th graders were paired with the 11th graders to raise money for FIT Homes which is under the direction of Agape Child Services. The girls made wonderful picnic lunches, and the boys bid on them to see with whom they would have lunch. It was a grand affair with lunches from luscious sub sandwiches to steak dinners. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and the students raised a great deal of money for the charity.

Camp Invention June 16-20
This week our LEAP program sponsored a special contest to promote
"Camp Invention" that will take place at the Harding Cordova campus
the week of June 16-20 (8:30-3:00). The children were asked to identify an
electrical device by examining the component parts. Several children in our class
were able to tell that the "mystery object" was a car cassette player! The names
of the children that guessed correctly were put into a drawing (per grade) for prizes from
"Camp Invention." There were winners in each grade. Pictured are 2 of the second grade
winners from Betsy Kolznak's class: Gavin Oliver won a t-shirt and Courtney Baker won a pencil!

SGA Lighten Up 2008
LIGHTEN UP, our monetary fundraiser for charity culminates this week. Team LeBonheur (7th and 10th), Team AGAPE (8th and 11th), and Team HopeWorks (9th and 12th) are in the final week of “friendly competition” to see who can raise the most money for their charity. The apostle James says true religion is to take care of the needy and to keep yourself unspotted from the world. The world tells us to take, not give. To spend, not donate. To help yourself, not others. Cherry Road students and faculty are daring to say “NO, there is a better way . . . The way of Christ.” You are the light of the world, so let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

2008 Bonner Relays
To say the Coach Dee Bonner Relays went off without a hitch would be a stretch, but the annual track meet was definitely a success. We hosted a combined 24 teams on our campus. Due to torrential rainstorms, we had to delay the meet about 2 hours on Saturday, but the athletes learned a valuable lesson about perseverance. The Harding Girls team placed 3rd out of 12 teams, and the boys placed 6th out of 12 teams. Congratulations to Alex Black, a sophomore sprinter and jumper for Harding, who was voted by the coaches as the Female Athlete of the Meet. She recorded the longest long jump, the highest high jump, and anchored the winning 4 x 100 relay team.

Cordova Sixth Grade
presents the wizard of oz
The sixth grade classes at Harding Academy Cordova presented a youthful version of “The Wizard of Oz”. The students lit up the stage with their choreography and costumes as they flawlessly performed this famous, classic story. The cast was composed of the entire sixth grade with the leading parts being shared by several students. Mrs. Nichols, Mr. Ray and Mrs. Sexton, the sixth grade teachers, worked tirelessly with the students and reaped the rewards of a fantastic final performance. "Hidden Treasures"
in Black History
"Miss" Bonnie led her students on an exciting treasure hunt exploring "hidden treasures" in Black History as the month long celebration came to a close. She shared stories of some lesser-known, yet significant, personalities and events from colonial times to the present. As the students were taught of the contributions of African Americans, they were introduced to their many achievements which have enriched the lives of all Americans. At the close of her treasure hunt, "Miss" Bonnie's students were treated to a delightful story of Anansi the Spider from Ghanaian folklore. The Anansi stories are thought to have originated with the Ashanti tribe. The students were able to gain a greater appreciation for our country, the diversity of its people, and the outstanding contributions they have made to this great nation.
Career Day at Southwind
Southwind’s Career Day, which took place on Thursday, February 21, was a great success. Seven participants who represented a wide variety of careers including a banker,an attorney, a director of convention services, a firefighter, a pharmacist, an air traffic controller, and a business manager shared their knowledge and experiences with students. Parents, as well as children, enjoy the event, and students are exposed to a wide variety of career choices by their sixth grade year.

DECISION 08 Draws Record
Attendance
One hundred 9-12 Cherry Road students attended "DECISION 08," the senior high retreat at ForTheKingdom camp in the Raleigh area of Memphis. Mr. Jonathan Murphy kept everyone spellbound with history anecdotes that seamlessly led into real biblical applications for everyday living. In between Mr. Murphy's four teaching sessions that began with student-led praise worship, students participated in games of all types-board games, pool, air hockey, touch football, pingpong, talking and walking, and just sitting by the fireplace. Saturday night ended with fellowship around the "Mr. Knight bonfire of all bonfires." Sunday morning worship session ended with communion led by Mr. Campbell and as each student and adult remembered Christ's sacrifice, reflections over decisions to make in order to follow Christ's teachings were carefully pondered.

Early Childhood
Cherry Road
Joined Seniors in Sing-Along
Cherry Road students, led by the Senior class of 2008, treated the Cherry Road Early Childhood children to a Christmas Sing-a-long. Jingle bells were shaking fast and furious as EC toddlers sang Jingle Bells to "Big Harding." The assembly ended with the traditional finale of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" acted out in royal fashion - a flying teacher, a frenchman imitating a hen, a very loud calling bird... or birds?, and much much more. in the spirit of christmas
White Station presented a music program called "In the Spirit of Christmas." Traditional music, as well as some new songs, made the program. Older students showed their skills on recorders and rhythm instruments, and all students joined in singing. The grand finale was a beautiful presentation of "Christmas in Many Languages." Students presented flags from many countries and joined other students wearing native costumes to give the greeting "Merry Christmas" in the native language of the country they were representing. Mrs. Pam Womack was honored in the finale and the program ended with another very special guest from the North Pole, Santa Claus, as the entire school joined in singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." to see pictures from the program, click here

Cordova Kindergarten Help
Santa Bring Gifts to Agape
The students at Cordova Kindergarten enjoyed their visits with Santa. For several years the kindergarten children have granted the Christmas wishes for many of Agape's foster children. This year as Santa's helpers, they brought over 100 gifts and $300 to help make sure the foster children have a very special Christmas.
Lady Lions Basketball
spread joy at agape
Varsity girls basketball went to AGAPE and took board games, crayons, and coloring books and gave the mothers there a much needed break while we all played with the children. The mothers were able to take home and decorate their Christmas trees (which had been donated by the NJHS) while the girls on the team watched the children. The girls, as well as the children, had a blast. They played everything from Connect 4 to Candy Land to Sorry and colored in gigantic coloring books. Santa Claus even showed up with gifts for all the children.
Junior Ring Banquet
With the girls all dolled up in formal dresses and the boys dressed in suits, the class of 2009 was ready and excited for the Junior Ring Banquet, which was held at Woodland Hills Country Club on December 6th. The evening started off with a nice dinner, then awards were presented by the class officers; including one to Ms. Womack for Most Cheerful. The evening was topped off with the distribution of class rings and the tradition of the turning of the rings. All of the juniors looked stunning, and the evening could be best summarized by Charles Zacheaus when he said, "that was the BEST night ever!" Game Day for St. Jude
Students at Harding White Station participated in "Game Day for St. Jude" on November 14. "Game Day" came about when 4th grader J.P. Payne wrote a touching letter to Principal Bonnie Jamerson about wanting to do something for the children at St. Jude. J.P. recently watched his Grandfather lose the battle to cancer and felt compelled to bring some cheer to the children who are also fighting this dreadful disease. So during chapel, White Station students filled the stage with games for St. Jude!

Say Something Good
About America
The third grade students at Harding Cordova presented a fabulous patriotic program entitled “Say Something Good About America”. The students performed songs that expressed a love of our country and an appreciation for the liberties we enjoy as citizens of the United States. Our children learned history through song as they recited lyrics about immigrants, pioneers, and even a “hip-hop, rap, song” listing in order all the past presidents of our great country! The celebration closed with the audience joining the students in singing our national anthem and a heartfelt prayer led by one of our young men. At Harding Academy we stress national pride and a respect for what God has done for our country. Psalm 33:12 reads, “Blessed is the nation whose God is Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.” Our goal is to teach this generation that serving God is a freedom that we enjoy as American citizens and a blessing to us all. for more pictures click here

Seun Omotunde Takes
Spelling Bee Title
Seun Omotunde spelled every word Mr. Pinkerton challenged him with to win this year's spelling bee. Will Graves was the runner-up. The winning word was “censor”, after spelling words like “vacuum”, “nauseous”, “exuberant”, “quesadilla”; it was quite a “phenomenon” that caused a great deal of “chagrin”. Congratulations to all our participants. It was quite an “exhilarating” experience. Seun will represent Harding at the local Spelling Bee on February 2.
They are not just idle words
for you—they are your life.
(Deuteronomy 32:47)
This was the message our seventh graders received Wednesday, November 14 from Mr. Daniel McGraw during the Seventh Grade Bible Ceremony. After being surrounded by the Senior Class singing "Thy Word is A Lamp Unto My Feet," the seventh graders walked across the Auditorium stage to receive their own personalized Harding Bibles made available through the generosity of The Dr. Gaylon and Mrs. Deanna Smith Endowment. It is our great hope that the words of these Bibles will sink deep into their hearts as God guides them in the path of righteousness.

Homecoming Week 2007
"Neva Scared"
"NEVA SCARED" is the 2007 homecoming theme! Homecoming Week is October 29-November 2. The Lions are certainly not scared to play football on November 2, but the SGA is also encouraging everyone to read Psalms 56 and Isaiah 12 to be spiritually "neva scared."
The members of the 2007 Homecoming Court are: Rebekah David, 9th grade representative; Morgan Faulk, 10th grade representative; Stacey Williams, 11th grade representative, Kelly Gossett, Miriam Harding, and Leah Raich, are the senior representatives. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime of the football game on November 2.

Imitation Is Chapel Theme
for 2007-2008
The SGA revealed that the chapel theme for the 2007-2008 school year is “IMITATION.” We want everyone to look around and find a Christian mentor to follow, to love, to imitate, just as Christ wants us to be like Him. Ephesians 5:1-2 says, “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”
