Elementary Counseling

Welcome!

It is my goal to work in concert with the Harding Academy faculty, administration, and parent community to ensure each student feels they have an advocate within the school community.  In addition to providing a safe haven for students, the counseling center seeks to provide resources for all students, parents, and teachers.

Counseling FAQ's     

What is the role of a counselor?

• provide an advocate for children
• provide group intervention for children
• serve as a support system to faculty and administration
• provide resources as needed
• provide referral services
• identify the needs of children
• provide current information regarding best practices with children
• crisis intervention and planning

 

How does one go about seeing the counselor?

• teacher/administrator referral
• self-referral
• parent referral
• referral by outside resource
• drop by

 

When should a parent contact the counselor? 

• when they have a specific concern about their child
• when the child expresses repetitive concerns
• when the family encounters difficulties and concerns
• when there are significant family changes
• when there is a significant illness or hospitalization of a family member or the child
• when the child experiences a significant loss ? (pet, favorite toy, person)
• when there are sudden changes in the child’s behavior, eating, or interaction
